About Second Chance Ranch

SCR is a non-profit 501c3 organization, founded in 1991 by Katie Merwick.

The sanctuary resides in Elma, Washington at the Ferreira Farms training facility, specializing in natural horsemanship and sport horse rehabilitation.

Staff: 8 board members and a cleaning staff of 3. Get out your brushes —we need volunteer groomers!

Horses: 33 on site—14 permanent residents; 11 for adoption; 3 on consignment; 5 in training

Progress: To date in 2005 we have rehabed and adopted out 23 horses and helped to place another 13 by posting on our website and screening adoptors.

How to Help

Monetary Donations: Make a tax-deductible contribution and know that proceeds go directly toward veterinary care, food, supplies, and operational costs.

Wish List: Got tractor? We also need a generator (3500 watt); construction for covering the outdoor arena; sheet metal to complete the foaling barn; 600’ of electric fencing and posts for pasture fencing.

Sponsorship: Help with veterinary & food requirements.

1) Gift Sponsorship: $30 entitles the recipient to a hand-written card with the photo & biography of the chosen horse

2) Veterinary Fund: Donate monthly to our Veterinary Fund and receive an online newsletter. Helps numerous shelters throughout the Northwest

3) Ranch Wrangler: Feed 1 horse through a monthly sponsorship of $150/month. Receive a photo & biography of your chosen horse, along with a monthly e-mail update on you horse’s progress

4) Electronic Newsletter Subscription: Up-to-date news about the horses & ranch, event dates, & educational & informational articles. Just $25/year.
