USDF Regional 6 – Letter from Regional Director

Noah Rattner took over the Director of USDF Region 6 at the start of the year. His first letter didn’t make it to the magazine in time for print, but we wanted to include his opening words for this year as they have great information for Region 6 Dressage riders. Welcome, Noah!

Happy New Year! We made it to 2022! What a whirlwind 2021… and 2020 have been!

In December, we wrapped up another fantastic USDF Virtual Annual Convention. A huge thank you to our Region’s PM & GMO Delegates for attending and actively participating in so many different committees and forums. It’s wonderful to have such great representation from Region 6 across the board. We also owe our USDF Staff a big round of applause for successfully facilitating another smooth virtual convention.

As of January 1, Peter Rothschild handed the torch to me to begin my term as your new Regional Director. I’m ever thankful to Peter for facilitating a smooth transition and handing off many critical documents and learnings for the benefit of our Region.

I’m thrilled to see so many Region 6 riders receiving grants from our friends at The Dressage Foundation. Congratulations to Mikaela Kuiper who has recently been selected for the 2022 Young Rider International Dream Program. As COVID continues to impact competitions worldwide, the program attendees will travel to Florida during the Adequan Global Dressage Festival to experience the international dressage scene first-hand. Claire Darnell was awarded the 2022 Debbie McDonald Fund for Pacific NW Riders and will use the grant to travel to Florida for the coming season, too.

USEF announced in mid-December that three of our Region’s Jr/YRs have been named to the 2022 Robert Dover Horsemanship Clinic Week. Congratulations to Daphne Glenn, Olivia Martz, and Trinity Schatzel.

It’s always exciting to see our riders out there, competing, winning titles, and enjoying their passion. It’s equally exciting to see our Region’s rising star judges being recognized for their contributions to the sport. Mr. Mike Osinski has been named to the illustrious Ground Jury at the 2022 World Cup Finals in Leipzig, Germany. Gut Gemacht und Viel Glück (well done and good luck), Mike! Back in October, we also learned that Mrs. Kari McClain earned her FEI4* Dressage promotion in Le Mans, France – bien joué, to you, too! Thank you for being a USDF Member and supporting our passion for dressage. In the words of our dearly departed Betty White, “Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without a passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.” So, leave footprints (and hoofprints), my friends…lots of them! Make 2022 your year! I look forward to serving you as your new USDF Regional Director. My email inbox is always open and I would love to hear from you! Email me at
